A Rustic Retreat Nestled Deep in the Green Mountains
#Camping in Vermont
This hidden gem is located in Southern VT on roughly 400 acres.
We have a scenic backside view of Stratton Mountain & Little Stratton Mtn. There’s two rivers on our property that come together before flowing on into Somerset Reservoir; The Deerfield River (also known as Moose Brook in 1796) & Black Brook. To the backside of Somerset Reservoir is about a half mile’s walk.
There’s hidden “beach” areas you can find on our riversides.
A half mile walk down the road is Grout Pond, a great place to kayak, swim, and explore 10+miles of all level trails in the state forrest.

On our property sits the old Shaw Mill site on Black Brook. It started operating in 1842, You can find old cellar holes from long ago cabins of the people who worked/lived there. Stone walls built by the banks of the brook and large stones used to cross the water. When it was in operation they used an up and down sawmill, which was a flutter box arrangement. The mill burned prior to 1880 and the road to it discontinued that year. They never did rebuild the mill, by 1900 the mill site/property was abandoned. Later it fell into the hands of Barlow, then VanVleck (close friend of our family), and then Tarbell (us).
Close by are Mount Snow & Stratton Mtn Resort (about 25 minute drives each)
There’s a couple country stores just down the road where you can stop in and get food and supplies.
